I just realized today when I went to register for the Winter 2008 term at PSU that I never posted about what classes I was taking for the Fall 2007 term. I’m going all day (16 credits) Tuesday and Thursdays. So here it is (a little late) these are the classes that I am currently taking at PSU:
MKTG 376: International Business. The instructor is pretty good and is an International Business Law Attorney, so needless to say we are learning a lot about laws and barriers one might encounter in doing business overseas. Our big group project in this class is to take a local company (CTI) who makes a concrete sealant and try to get them to open up sales in other countries, identifying obstacles they need to face.
MKTG 363: Consumer Behavior and Customer Satisfaction. This class reminds me a lot of my PSY 345 Human Motivation class. The first half of the class was spent talking about Motivation, Ability, Opportunity, Exposure, Attention, and Perception of customers when they shop. Our big group project in this class is taking McDonald’s Coffee and trying to market it to current McDonald’s customers who currently buy coffee and try to get them to buy more and current McDonald’s customers who don’t buy McDonald’s coffee and try to get them to try it.
BA 303: Corporate Finance. The instructor in this class is teaching his first term ever. The class is more like a personal finance class and we’ve been doing nothing but math. I thought I was done with math. Every class we calculate the return and risk of certain investments. Good thing he grades on a curve. NO GROUP PROJECT! WOOHOO!!!
MKTG 435/535: Consumer Package Goods (CPG) and Food Marketing. The instructor has a doctorate in this subject. He’s very knowledgeable about this subject and I’m learning a lot. This class is called a “/” (Slash) class because it’s also required for a M.B.A. in business. The class is shared with undergraduate and graduate students. There are two big group projects in this class. I actually got away with doing the group project by myself because I explained I had no time to meet with a 3rd group AND work 40hrs a week, so he granted me the right to work on these alone. The first one I already did and found out I got a B on. It was to analyze the Portland Division of Safeway and their coffee category and how it could be improved. The second project that’s due at the end of this month is a look into Wal-Mart’s sustainability program (how they are doing business today to better the environment for future generations). Something that should be right up my alley…right?!?
SO…that’s what I’m doing this term, it’s why I’ve been busy and so antisocial.
I only have 7 classes left and then I graduate with my Bachelor of Science in Marketing. This next term I’m also looking to do an internship and get away from working at Safeway so much. This next term I’m going Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (15 credits). SO…Here is what I signed up for next term:
MKTG 460 Marketing Research.
MKTG 466 International Marketing.
BA 339 Operations and Quality Management.
…AND…
I start my Senior Capstone (Senior Project). This class actually spans over my last two terms at PSU and will last 6 months.
UNST 421 Business Outreach I
During this class, myself along with classmates will be acting as real consultants to small-medium size businesses in the Portland Area. These businesses are sought out either for their potential to grow, or because they are about to go under. We will do complete overhauls of these businesses, analyze them, and then offer recommendations on how they can better themselves.
That’s all for now, I’ll have more descriptions of the classes when I start them…I still need to make it through this term…
